Bridge the present and the interwar years during Museum Night Fever! Explore the temporary ART DECO exhibition and watch a sculpture come to life before your eyes. In the museum about Belgium and its history, artists and dancers will take you back 100 years: learn the dances of the Roaring Twenties and contribute to a textile artwork featuring Art Deco patterns. In the Atrium, the party is all about the present, with four live concerts featuring soul, hip hop and afrobeats, and a fiery DJ set. Feeling thirsty? Head to the garden bar!
Explore the magnificent world of Art Deco. Discover how this 'modern' and iconic style reflects the ways the world changed post-World War I. To mark the year of Art Deco, the King Baudouin Foundation is showcasing Art Deco pieces from its collection, taking you on a captivating journey through sculptures by renowned artists such as Marcel Wolfers and Oscar Jespers, vases by Charles Catteau, glassware by Val Saint Lambert, decorative tiles, stylised book bindings, furniture, medals, and so much more!
Continuous from 7 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
Everyone knows about Belgium’s quirks. Or do they? The permanent exhibition invites you to explore today’s Belgium and its history through seven key themes: democracy, prosperity, solidarity, pluralism, migration, language and Europe. From the country's democratic structure to its social security system, from ethical questions to economic development, from migration to multilingualism, from colonization to Europe – by the end of your visit, Belgium will hold no more secrets for you. Don’t miss the gallery either: more than 200 Belgian objects showcase the country’s many facets. A football, a motorbike, a saxophone, even Christmas baubles – a true explosion of “Belgitude”!
Continuous from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Come witness the birth of a work of art... Set in the heart of the ART DECO exhibition, visual artist Maciej Jan Strupczewski will create a live sculpture inspired by the moment and the creativity of one of the great artistic movements of the 20th century. In his artistic practice, he transforms what lies hidden within each person into volume through gestures, materials, and forms. He thus makes the inseparable visible – the power, energy, and force of emotions.
"This sculpture will reflect this moment, these people, this place, and the visitors. Every gesture, note, step, smile and/or grimace will be both inspiration and contribution to a work of art through which my hands will express collective individuality." - Maciej Jan Strupczewski
Continuous from 7 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
Let yourself be carried away by the flow of the artists performing on stage in the Atrium! With four live concerts on the lineup, the atmosphere will shift between soul, R&B, hip hop, and afrobeats, ending with a fiery DJ set. Aperohit invites you to discover rising stars from the Belgian music scene, with a program that celebrates cultural diversity, intercultural exchange, and youth entrepreneurship:
Come take part in a collective textile creation. Bodies in rhythm by Gauze Collective is a performative workshop inspired by Art Deco and the feminine figures of the interwar period. In the atmosphere of a living workshop, you are invited to print and collaboratively compose a constantly evolving textile artwork. Through slow, repetitive, and intentional gestures, this performance questions our contemporary rhythms and celebrates the transmission of know-how – between collective memory and shared creation.
Continuous from 7 p.m. to 12:45 a.m.
Come dance and relive the story of an era that never sleeps... The dancers of Dance Culture invite you into the Art Deco universe, where glamour, jazz, and the signature steps of the Charleston and Foxtrot await! Tonight, the museum halls transform into a Roaring Twenties-style club: learn the basics of swing, Charleston, and jazz dance, and admire elegant and refined period-style performances. Art Deco will come to life before your eyes — and through your steps:
In the garden, Brasserie {C} is mouthwatering to serve you their favorite artisanal specialties. From softs to beers, this brewery from Liège takes pride that every single drink on its menu is produced and bottled in Belgium! Have you never tried a fruity Sowa BissIce Teaap or a strong Curtius Classic before? Do not wait any longer!
