BELvue museum:Ethical Guidelines Venue Hire

Ethical Guidelines for Venue Hire at the BELvue Museum

We are proud to offer a space for activities that align with our mission and values. To ensure that all events held here reflect our principles, we have established the following ethical guidelines for room rentals.

Our Core Values

At the BELvue Museum, we stand for inclusion, pluralism, solidarity, and respect for diversity. We ask all renters to ensure that their activities uphold these values, fostering an environment of mutual respect and openness.

Non-Discrimination Policy

We are committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for everyone. By renting a room at the BELvue Museum, you agree to:

  • Reject any form of discrimination based on gender, nationality, race, age, sexual orientation, religion, political opinion, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Ensure your event is accessible to all.
  • Actively prevent and address discriminatory behavior, if it arises.
  • Follow all relevant laws and regulations that promote equality and inclusion.
  • Require any third parties involved in your event to adhere to this non-discrimination policy.

Failure to comply with these principles may result in the cancellation of your booking.

Preventing Direct or Indirect Misuse of Venue Hire

To safeguard the BELvue Museum’s mission and values, we require transparency about the true nature of every booking. Renters may not serve as intermediaries or allow their booking to be used by organizations or individuals whose values or activities conflict with the museum’s principles.

Specifically:

  • Renters must not represent or provide services for organizations or individuals known for promoting discrimination, racism, hatred, or any activity that conflicts with the museum’s core values.
  • The BELvue Museum reserves the right to deny bookings if there is reasonable suspicion that the renter or associated parties are connected to ideologies, activities, or organizations that promote hatred, exclusion, or violence.
  • Events must clearly disclose all third-party organizers or collaborators. Lack of transparency may lead to the cancellation of the booking.

By ensuring transparency and accountability, the BELvue Museum protects its reputation as a space for constructive and inclusive dialogue.

Political and Public Events

We welcome events that align with our values and contribute to democratic dialogue. To balance our commitment to pluralism with our ethical framework:

  • Events hosted by political parties or organizations are permitted, provided their activities reflect inclusivity, respect for diversity, and adherence to democratic values.
  • Events directly linked to electoral campaigns are not allowed.
  • Events hosted at the BELvue Museum must remain private and by invitation only; public events or open access are not permitted.

By encouraging democratic engagement and ensuring events remain private, we aim to create a space where diverse ideas can be shared respectfully and constructively.

Communication Guidelines

To maintain the BELvue Museum's reputation and avoid misunderstandings, renters must follow these communication guidelines:

  • Representation of the Museum: Renters may not present their event as being hosted or endorsed by the BELvue Museum or the King Baudouin Foundation. Clear language should be used to indicate that the BELvue Museum is the venue, not the organizer.
  • Logo Use: The BELvue Museum logo or branding may not be used in any communication materials, including invitations, flyers, or digital promotions, without prior written consent.
  • Venue Credit: Any communication referring to the location should mention "Event hosted at the BELvue Museum" or similar phrasing to clarify the museum’s role?
  • Social Media and Publicity: Renters are required to ensure that all public communication adheres to these guidelines and reflects the private nature of the event.

Failure to comply with these communication requirements may lead to the cancellation of the booking and affect future eligibility to rent the venue.

Prohibited Activities

To protect our mission and reputation, the BELvue Museum does not host:

  • Activities that conflict with our core values, such as those inciting hatred, discrimination, or violence.
  • Events associated with industries or practices deemed harmful, such as tobacco production, arms trade, or human rights violations.
  • Events that promote unethical or environmentally damaging practices.

How We Assess Applications

The BELvue Museum reserves the right to request detailed information about the renter and the purpose of the event, including its organizers, participants, and intended audience. This information is evaluated to ensure alignment with our ethical guidelines. In cases of doubt, we may require additional assurances or documentation to confirm compliance.

Transparency and Accountability

Our ethical guidelines are publicly available to ensure transparency in our decision-making process. All renters must agree to these guidelines before confirming a booking.

By following these principles, the BELvue Museum strives to provide a space that celebrates diversity, supports dialogue, and reflects the values we cherish.

Thank you for contributing to a respectful and inclusive environment!
