On Wednesday, December 3, we invite teachers and anyone interested to come and discover the Invisible Stories (INVIST) educational toolkit, dedicated to invisible migration narratives. Throughout the day, experts and project partners will present the theoretical concepts and preliminary research on the topic. The afternoon will be dedicated to showcasing the tools and how to use them concretely in the classroom, during interactive workshops.

Invisible Stories (INVIST) aims to provide teachers with educational tools to address migration and European identity in the classroom.

Programme

09:30-10:00: Welcome

10:00-10:15: Welcome speech by An Lavens, Director of the BELvue Museum

10:15-11:15: Keynote speech by Dr. Wim Peumans on European identity, migration, and an invisible story

How did sexuality and gender gain a prominent place in the migration discourse? And what does European citizenship entail? In his keynote speech, Dr. Peumans highlights the consequences for LGBT Muslims and their experience of coming out, sexuality, and gender – both during the asylum process and within the family context. An invisible story in a nutshell!
