Take this unique opportunity to meet Werner Adriaenssens and Cécile Dubois, the two co-curators of our ART DECO exhibition! During the “Meet the Curator” guided tours, they reveal the secrets behind their selection of themes and objects. Werner Adriaenssens will give his tours in Dutch, while Dubois will conduct hers in French. Discover here who they are, what they do, and what you can expect from this special occasion.
Werner Adriaenssens holds a PhD in archaeology and art sciences and works as a curator at the Royal Museums of Art and History (KMKG) in Brussels. Since 2021, he has been leading the Decorative Arts department there. In addition, he teaches about Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and museology at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). He has published several books and curated various exhibitions on Belgian Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
During his tours, Adriaenssens places the works back in their historical context and enhances the route with various anecdotes.
Cécile Dubois is a historian, guide, and heritage project manager. She is also president of the Brussels Art Deco Society and has authored several books on Art Nouveau and Art Deco, published by Racine. She is currently collaborating with photographer Sophie Voituron on a new book about Art Deco interiors, Bruxelles Art Déco. Intérieurs intemporels. (Racine Publishing).
During her tours, Dubois delves deeper into her approach and the different aspects of the exhibition. She also explains what makes Art Deco so “modern.”
