Fancy taking brrrrrriliant DIY workshops, getting your junk fixed while sipping a ‘whaletale’ mocktail or taking part in a star party? Then put on your thickest winter coat and come to the BELvue Museum on 18 January 2024 between 5.30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Get on board and discover our programme of workshops, a visit to the exhibit "Looking for... THE END OF THE WORLD! A climate expedition aboard the 'Belgica'" with guides to answer all your questions and a star party. To warm you up, bowls of soup and other, hot bowls with fresh, local ingredients are available at democratic prices. As in the exhibit, we will show that there is still hope for the future and offer small, concrete actions you can apply at home to commit to a more climate-neutral future. Besides the Climate Fair, our permanent display about Belgium and its history can also be visited continuously.
PROGRAMME
Continuous 5.30 p.m. - 10 p.m.:
Whales with a tail: Make your own origami whales with a message and inspire other people with your words to write an ode to the earth together that will be posted on the socials.
Les Filles will take care of delicious, (heart) warming soup bowls, chili sin carne or couscous with tofu. Something you definitely have to try out is the signature mocktail of the night: the whaletale.
Also enjoy the opportunity of the Climate Fair to (re)discover the permanent exhibition about Belgium and its history.
Continuous 5.30 p.m. - 7.30 p.m.:
Go looking for...THE END OF THE WORLD with a guide: Guides present in the exhibit will be happy to tell you more about “Looking for…THE END OF THE WORLD! A climate expedition aboard the ‘Belgica”. Exactly 125 years ago, Adrien de Gerlache sailed with his crew to ‘terra incognita’, Antarctica. Embark on a climate expedition and prepare for a journey filled with cracking ice, whales and scientific baggage.
Continuous 6 p.m. - 9.30 p.m.: walk-in workshops
Recyclart continues the exploration with creative ways to save discarded items from the dustbin. Do you still have a sputtering kitchen timer at home, a lamp from grandma that experienced the era of enlightenment but refuses to light up itself, or other craft projects? Recyclart will be present with a 'repair mobil' and is committed to make, recover or upcycle as many objects as possible.
Alma Sana advocates a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle by adapting daily routines. Taking care of the earth and home, your body and soul? It can be done! Make your own toothpaste and facial care or learn to wrap using the technique of furoshiki.
8 p.m. - 10 p.m.: Starparty
Can you still navigate without smartphone? To wrap up the evening Roger Vanderlinden of Urania, de Volkssterrenwacht Vlaanderen, will guide a star party where you will learn more about ancient navigation instruments while contemplating below the night sky. So be sure to dress warm enough!
Be sure to bring a warm jumper, jacket and that thing you always ‘wanted to get fixed…’. Navigate to the BELvue Museum and don’t forget to dress warmly for this expedition into ‘futurum incognitum’!
